ABOUT

I am Jerad Nylin a 32 year old criminology B.A. student finishing up at the University of Iowa in the fall of 2024.  I advocate every day because I know what it’s like to face seemingly unstoppable challenges. Growing up blind with Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) and being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in my twenties, I’ve navigated life with disabilities from an early age. My journey through the foster care system, caused by my mother’s struggle with substance use disorder, showed me firsthand how society’s barriers can hinder those striving to move forward. These experiences have fueled my passion to create change for those who, like me, confront these obstacles daily. I’m committed to dismantling these barriers and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to thrive. This is why I dedicate myself to mental health advocacy, criminal justice reform, and disability support—because I believe in a world where everyone has a fair chance to succeed.
